SerenA in the media

Research findings from the SerenA project on the nature of serendipity and its application to our everyday lives has recently featured in several UK and international media outlets.

News.com.au and the Daily Mail have reported on our findings that although serendipity cannot be controlled it can, to some extent, be influenced.

The Huffington Post’s Simon Harper has asked the interesting question ‘can you engineer serendipity?’ – an apparent oxymoron which we have a strong opinion on in the SerenA team – that whilst it is not possible nor desirable to ‘engineer’ serendipity in interactive systems or physical environments by trying to give it to users ‘on a plate,’ it IS possible to ‘create opportunities’ for people to subjectively experience serendipity.

Also, Emerald Street has examined ways that our research can help people to ‘create serendipitous moments.’ SerenA’s research on this issue has also been featured in print; The Sunday Times (21st October issue), Spirit & Soul magazines (January 2013 issue) and Red Magazine (April 2013 issue) have both discussed the ways that people can ‘make their own luck’ (grounded by SerenA research on what Creative professionals do to influence serendipity).

We would love to hear from you if you have any comments about SerenA’s research. ‘Leave a reply’ to this post to make a comment.
