Facebook vs Serendipity

I am a model and I travel quite a bit for work. The fashion industry is global, but it is quite small at the same time, as you tend to meet the same fellow models, photographers, make up artists etc once in Milan, then Paris, New York etc etc. So bumping into someone in London, who you have met 2 years/ two months/ days in Tokyo is not such a big deal.

However this is what happened to me:
I am currently based in London and I don’t travel for work as much as I used to. In March 2011 I was in Lisbon to model their fashion week shows ”Moda Lisboa”. There I worked with a very nice make up artist girl. We got along really great and after fashion week I think we got to work at some photo shoots too. I remember I even bumped into her once in Lisbon old town by chance.

However that was 2 years ago.

I am in Barcelona now, came here for work 2 days ago. I met a friend, another fellow model who I get to meet all over the world: London, Paris and now knowing that she is here too, we decided to go for lunch somewhere. We were walking on this main road not far from Placa Catalunya, we turned in a side street and we passed by a nice place with tables outside. All tables were full thought and we kept walking. Not for too long though because I suddenly said: ”This place looked very nice and it seemed that they had tables inside.” So we went back, and indeed it was very very nice and we took a table inside. Before getting my seat I saw a girl that looked very much looked like that make up artist from Lisbon 2 years ago. But then I thought: ”No that is not her, I met her in Lisbon, she was Portuguese.”

Next thing I know: this girl comes to our table, says my name and gives me a kiss on the cheek. Then she said that she saw on Facebook last night that I am in Barcelona and messaged me that she lives here now. However, serendipity met us first, before Facebook eventually could!
