Sustainable music

I had been asked to write an essay on the broad topic of ‘sustainability’ in Urban Design. I remembered back to when I had seen a Canadian musician perform his work at a Thessaloniki documentary festival just over two years ago. The musician had taken a genius approach of taking Bach’s masterpieces and deconstructed them and recomposed them somehow and made some variations. This gave me the idea to adapt this way of thinking into making a city more sustainable in an experimental way. The musician had taken something old (in this case Bach’s compositions) and varied the existing elements of the composition to make something new. So I thought I might be able to do something similar – to identify the existing elements of an old city such as Athens and then deconstruct and recompose the city to see whether this could produce a result that could be useful. This became my essay idea.
