RCUK DIGITAL ECONOMY SUMMER SCHOOL

Twitter Visualisation Activity at to support Conference Participants.

The SerenA project team Sarah Sharples, Scott Piao and Mel Woods ran an activity during the DE summer school DocFest on 13th -14th July 2011,  with PhD students from Digital Economy Hubs and research projects.

During the conference the team examined the ways in which we can represent and encourage connections between different people, using twitter data as a source to establish these connections. The team installed 3 large displays with showing different types of visualisations and then conducted short interviews with participants during the summer school to obtain participants views about the visualisations and concept.

Docfest brought together PhD students associated with digital economy programme, from the associated Centres for Doctoral Training, from the hubs and from digital economy funded programmes, to foster a strong sense of community and to encourage cross-programme collaboration and sharing of best practice. This year the focus was on the nature of PhDs for the digital economy and to challenge attendees to think about the kind of PhD programmes and approaches that are required to meet the challenges of the digital economy.
